Face Of The Humbled Poor

from New Stuff by Paul Gioia

about

Drawn from Mat. 25. A lament for the way Australia has travelled over the last year since September 11th. Lacking in compassionate leadership, we have given in to a politics of fear and turned our backs on the needy, the desperate, the refugee.

lyrics

Matthew 25:31-46

1.
Behold the Son of Man
With all His angels gathered ‘round Him
Behold the host of nations ‘round his burning throne

2.
The King will reign with might
And He will shake their souls from left to right
The King will choose them one by one and then they’ll cry

Chorus
When did we see you a broken manLying beside a cell door?
When did we meet your eyesAnd not recognise
The Saviour’s face in the humbled poor?

3.
I am a refugee
I am a captive child, a detainee
I pace from wall to wall with a broken heartHelp me.

4.
I am the Holy One
I am the Kings of Kings, the conquering Son,
And there will come a time when my Kingdom comes to you
